Photo Transfer Techniques

In this episode I will demonstrate a photo transfer technique which should prove pretty interesting. To join me during the show you will need:

  • Gel medium
  • Canvas fabric
  • Watercolor paper
  • Ink jet printer
  • High contrast black and white photos printed on regular printer paper from your inkjet printer
  • Muslin
  • Paint brush or other applicator
  • Wax paper to protect work surface
  • Bone folder or wood spoon

Not sure where to buy canvas or watercolor paper? I love shopping at Daniel Smith for all my art supply needs.

Thanks

Depending upon how dry the air is in the room you are working, it could be ready to peel in 5 minutes, or as long as 30. Just very carefully pull up a corner that doesn't have anything really important. If there is no ink left on the paper and the ink is totally transferred onto the canvas, then you are ready to peel everything.

Wow, these are professional

Wow, these are professional tips, I realize now that I still have a lot to learn about this. Thanks for all the information, I should check my toner for all the required standards and search for the rest of the things I need. I am glad I found you guys!

Gel Medium

What type of gel medium do you use? I tried this technique with Liquitex Matte Gel (acrylic) and had to try several times to get the print to transfer...sort of. Am I using the right stuff? Smullis

Great technique!

I haven't seen this photo transfer technique before and I love it! I even already have all the supplies for this! Thanks for your podcast. Only one suggestion (since you asked for suggestions in one of the episodes) is to try not to say "um" so much. ;) But you do a terrific podcast regardless.
